MIKE SHE

Introduction


Welcome to MIKE SHE Release 2014.

MIKE SHE is an integrated hydrological modelling system, which covers the entire land phase of the hydrological cycle.

In this Release Note you will find information about new features of MIKE SHE, and what you need to know in order to install and get started with Release 2014.


System requirements


The recommended minimum system requirements are:

Operating systems

Fully supported operating systems *
Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1 (32 and 64 bit), Windows 8 Pro (64 bit) and Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Service Pack 1 (64 bit). For the latest update, please refer to the FAQ.

Non-supported but partially tested operating systems **
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (32 bit), Windows 8 Pro (32 bit) and Windows Server 2012 Standard (64 bit). For the latest update, please refer to the FAQ.
Processor 2.0 GHz Intel Pentium or higher and compatibles, or equivalents
Memory (RAM) 2 GB (or higher)
Hard disk 40 GB (or higher)
Monitor SVGA, resolution 1024x768 in 16 bit colour
Graphics adapter 64 MB RAM (256 MB RAM or higher recommended), 24 bit true colour
Media DVD drive compatible with dual-layer DVDs is required for installation
File system NTFS
Software requirements .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and .NET Framework 4.0 (Full Profile)

* Fully supported operational systems are systems that have been tested in accordance with MIKE by DHI's Quality Assurance procedures and where warranty and software maintenance agreement conditions apply.

** Non-supported but partially tested operating systems are systems, which are not officially supported by the MIKE by DHI software products. These operating systems have only undergone very limited testing for the purpose of MIKE by DHI software, but the software and key features are likely to work. Installation of MIKE by DHI software on a non-supported operating system is done so at the user's own risk. The MIKE by DHI software warranty and software maintenance agreement conditions do not apply for unsupported operating systems and DHI is under no obligation to provide assistance or troubleshooting for cases where the software is being used on a non-supported operating system.

Please note that single user installations are not allowed on server operating systems. Also, when running a fully supported operating system as a 'guest operating system' on a virtualisation platform, it is automatically downgraded to a non-supported operating system under the conditions provided above.


Installation

To install MIKE SHE, please choose MIKE Zero in the ‘MIKE by DHI Setup’ dialogue box that appears when inserting the MIKE software 2014 DVD or executing the Setup.exe file from the downloaded installation files. Press the ‘Install’ button to begin installation.

The setup programme will automatically install all necessary files and folders on your computer. Additionally, a ‘MIKE by DHI 2014’ entry is created, which contains icons for various MIKE Zero utilities and links to documentation.


Licence file & dongle

To use MIKE SHE in licenced mode, please follow these steps: 

  1. You can retrieve the MIKE by DHI software licence file (DhiLicense.dat) via the Internet. This requires a working Internet connection and a valid e-mail address. The licence file can be retrieved in two ways:
    • During installation of MIKE by DHI software
    • After installation of the MIKE by DHI software, by launching the DHI License Updater through the start menu
  2. To retrieve your licence file during installation of MIKE by DHI software, select ‘Local’ when prompted to ‘Select license type’. In the following dialogue box, select ‘Internet’. At the end of the installation process, you will be prompted to insert your DHI dongle. Insert the dongle and follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. To update your licence file using the License Updater, simply launch "Start -> Programs -> MIKE by DHI 2014 -> DHI License Updater" and follow the on-screen instructions. On Windows 8, search for DHI License Updater.
  4. Alternatively, the licence file can simply be copied in \Program files\DHI\2014\License or Program files(x86)\DHI\2014\License.
  5. After completed installation, you should ensure that your hardware key is attached to the system.

Product invocation

To start MIKE SHE, go to Start -> Programs -> MIKE by DHI 2014 -> MIKE Zero or search for MIKE by DHI 2014 and select ‘MIKE Zero’. Then you can select MIKE SHE from within the MIKE Zero Shell.

Starting MIKE SHE without a DHI configured hardware key and valid licence files will cause the programme to run in demo mode. If this happens, a message box will inform you during programme initialisation. When running in demo mode, MIKE SHE supplies full access to all editors, computational engines and editing facilities. However, restrictions apply to the setups that can actually be executed as a model simulation.

Please note that the service packs are accumulative, i.e. corrections and fixes released with a previous service pack are included in the newest service pack as well.

Result Viewer New feature: Save Vectors to Shape file
The vector field is exported to a shape file as polylines (with no arrow head).
The polylines include the entire vector field for the current time step and will have the scale as shown in the Result Viewer.
Note: polylines can be displayed by arrow symbols in e.g. ArcMap.

  • Rotate Grid: Resulting orientation was slightly inaccurate when cropping dfs2 data in LON/LAT
  • Statistics: tool fails when calculating statistics on subdomain of an dfs2 file

MIKE SHE Water Balance tool Large models has proved that the Stack size allocated for the Water Balance extraction engine is too limited which occasionally causes a crash during extraction of results.

MIKE SHE AD MIKE SHE AD (with MIKE 11) runs in decoupled mode and reads input from WM and M11 HD result-files during simulation. The accuracy of such an approach depends highly on the storing frequency of the WM/HD simulations as a large storing frequency will cause a need for interpolation of HD-results and risk of uncertainty in AD Mass transfer calculations between MIKE SHE and MIKE 11. To solve this problem, a new result-file is introduced for WM-simulations ('*.RivEx) which stores results required for optimal decoupled AD-simulations.
