MIKE Marine GIS for ArcGIS is an extension to the ESRI ArcGIS 10.0. An ArcGIS license is required to run MIKE Marine GIS for ArcGIS.

Installation^ top

To install MIKE Marine GIS, please choose 'MIKE Marine GIS Extension' in the 'MIKE BY DHI Setup' dialog that appears when inserting the MIKE software 2011 DVD and then press the 'Install' button . This will lead you to an installation program for all the DHI GIS Extensions. Select MIKE Marine GIS Extension from the list. Please note that the installation includes the Temporal Analyst Extension.

MIKE Marine GIS 2011 is based on ArcGIS 10.0 including service pack 1. If you have ArcGIS versions prior to 10.0 installed it will not be possible to keep these.

License File and Dongle^ top

To use MIKE Marine GIS please follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that the provided dongle is attached to the computer (parallel port)
  2. The dongle driver is installed automatically during the setup of the program
  3. The installation prompts you for two license files:
    1. One license file covering ArcView and
    2. One license file - DhiLicense.dat - covering MIKE Marine GIS Extension
  4. If the MIKE Marine GIS license file was not installed during the installation procedure, it can simply be copied from the supply medium (attachment to e-mail from DHI or CD/DVD) in  \Program Files\DHI\2011\License or Program Files (x86)\DHI\2011\License. Alternatively, if another MIKE software product is already installed on the machine, the new license file including the MIKE Marine GIS Extension license can be installed as follows:
    1. Start the program purchased from DHI
(the program will start in Demo-Mode)
    2. Select Help from the menu bar
    3. Select License from the Help-menu
    4. Click on the 'Install License File' from the About-dialog
    5. Follow the instruction from the 'Install License File'-wizard

Product Invocation^ top

To start MIKE Marine GIS go to Start -> Programs -> MIKE by DHI 2011 -> MIKE GIS  and select 'MIKE GIS'. This will open ArcMap from where you can activate and access the MIKE Marine GIS Extension toolbar.

Starting MIKE GIS without a DHI configured Software Key and valid license files causes the program to run in Demo mode. If this happens, a message box will inform you during program initialization. Running in Demo mode, MIKE Marine GIS supplies full access to most utilities in the Surface Manager, however the remaining managers are not accessible.
