Installation^ top

To install LITPACK, please choose 'LITPACK' in the 'MIKE BY DHI Setup' dialog that appears when inserting the MIKE software 2011 DVD and then press the 'Install' button.

The setup program automatically installs all necessary LITPACK files and folders on your PC. Additionally, a 'MIKE by DHI 2011' entry is created, containing icons for various MIKE Zero utilities and links to documentation.

License File and Dongle^ top

To use LITPACK in licensed-mode please follow these steps:

  1. The MIKE software license file (DhiLicense.dat) may be retrieved using the Internet. A working Internet connection and a valid e-mail address are required. The license file may be retrieved in two ways:
  • During installation of MIKE software
  • After installation of the MIKE software, by launching the DHI License Updater through the start menu
  1. To retrieve your license file during installation of the MIKE software, select “Local” when prompted to select the type of License Management, and then select “Internet” and follow the on-screen instructions. Attach your hardware when prompted.
  2. To update your license file using the License Updater, simply launch “Start->Programs->MIKE by DHI 2011->DHI License Updater” and follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. Alternatively, the license file can simply be copied from the supply medium (attachment to e-mail from DHI or CD/DVD) in  \Program Files\DHI\2011\License or Program Files (x86)\DHI\2011\License.
  4. After completed installation, ensure that your hardware key is attached to the system.

Product Invocation^ top

To start LITPACK, go to Start -> Programs -> MIKE by DHI 2011 -> MIKE Zero  and select 'MIKE Zero'. Then you can select LITPACK from within the MIKE Zero Shell

Starting LITPACK without a DHI configured Hardware Key and valid license files causes the program to run in Demo mode. If this happens, a message box will inform you during program initialization. Running in Demo mode, LITPACK supplies access to all editors and editing facilities however only the LITLINE module engine can be executed.

New features^ top

Every new release of LITPACK consists of new features and/or corrections to problems or significant inconsistencies discovered in previous releases. Please find short descriptions of the most significant news in Release 2011 below.

MIKE Zero

  • MIKE to Google Earth: A new tool that can be used in conjunction with the Google Earth Viewer to display contour maps of georeferenced dfs2 data files. This tool replaces the older GE Plugin and has additional user-defined variables such as color scaling, datum shift and image size.
  • Geodesy Utilities - new projection types: Stereographic North Pole and Stereographic South Pole.
  • Plot Composer - Rose plot: 3rd item to define duration of event
  • MIKE Zero Toolbox - new Time Series Batch Conversion tool: Batch conversion between dfs0, ASCII and EXCEL files

LITPACK

  • A new module, Littoral Processes FM, is introduced. This module has similar functionality as LITSTP and LITDRIFT, but is much more flexible with regards to input data formats and contents of output.

    • Bathymetry specified explicitly by from data file or extracted from a mesh file
    • Wave climate specified by event classes or by true time series
    • Flexible definition of input variables (constant/time varying/spatial)
    • Calculation of littoral drift for several cross-shore profiles in one simulation
    • User-defined selection of output parameters
    • Graphical view of setup in geo-referenced domain
This module will in time replace the 'classic' LITPACK modules and be linked and integrated closer with the Coupled Model FM.
  • NOTE: An error in the calculation of the angle between the incoming wave and the longshore wave-generated current has been corrected. This may result in significantly smaller littoral drift rates compared to LITPACK Release 2009 (LITDRIFT/LINTABL). To continue the use of the 'old' way of calculation insert the following block in the ascii input file:

    [Options_Parameters]
    Opt_Rel2009_WCangle = 1
    EndSect // Options_Parameters
