If you are using MIKE FLOOD with an urban component (MOUSE or MIKE URBAN) please then install these products subsequently.
License File and Dongle^ top
To use MIKE FLOOD in licensed-mode please follow these steps:
- Make sure that the provided dongle is attached to the computer (parallel or USB port - for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition USB port only)
- The dongle driver is installed automatically during the setup of the program.
- The MIKE software license file (DhiLicense.dat) may be retrieved using the Internet. A working Internet connection and a valid e-mail address are required. The license file may be retrieved in two ways:
- During installation of MIKE software
- After installation of MIKE software, by launching the License Updater through the start menu
- To retrieve your license file during installation of MIKE software, select “Local” when prompted to select the type of License Management, and then select “Internet” and follow the on-screen instructions
- To update your license file using the License Updater, simply launch “Start->Programs->MIKE BY DHI 2009->DHI License Updater” and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Alternatively, the license file can simply be copied from the supply medium (attachment to e-mail from DHI or CD/DVD/floppy disk) in \Program Files\DHI\2009\License or Program Files (x86)\DHI\2009\License.
Product Invocation^ top
To start MIKE Flood go to Start -> Programs -> MIKE BY DHI 2009-> MIKE Zero -> MIKE Zero.
This will start the general MIKE Zero interface from which either existing MIKE Flood files can be loaded or new MIKE Flood files created.
Starting MIKE Flood without a DHI configured Software Key and valid license files causes the program to run in Demo mode. If this happens, a message box will inform you during program initialisation. Running in Demo mode, MIKE Flood supplies full access to all editors, input files and editing facilities. However, restrictions apply on which set-ups that can actually be executed as a model simulation.

New features^ top
- 3-way coupling:
A new multi-directional coupling has been developed and implemented to allow for a coupling between the river system (MIKE 11), the surface flow component (MIKE 21) and the Urban area modelling component (MIKE URBAN)- Linkage line definition using Shape file: Shape-files can now be used to define lateral linkage line between MIKE 11 and MIKE 21
- Linkage line definition using xyz-file: xyz ascii-files can now be used to define lateral linkage line between MIKE 11 and MIKE 21
Known Defects & Workarounds^ top
MIKE FLOOD 2009 Service Pack 1 - May 2009
Service Packs includes fixes to inconveniences and errors, minor modifications and features to MIKE FLOOD Release 2009.
SP1 for MIKE Flood includes the following changes:
| Module/Type | Error/Inconvenience/New feature | Status | Remarks |
| MIKE 21 HD |
The simulation
runtime
for MIKE FLOOD models using MIKE 21 rectangular grid is significantly
improved. Performance improvement is achieved by restructuring code and no changes to solution algorithms etc. at all. Hence, simulation results will not change from previous versions due to this change. |
Improvement |
MIKE FLOOD 2009 Service Pack 2 - June 2009
Service Packs includes fixes to inconveniences and errors, minor modifications and features to MIKE FLOOD Release 2009.
Service Pack 2 (SP2) for MIKE Flood includes changes from previous Service Pack as well as the following changes:
| Module/Type | Error/Inconvenience/New feature | Status | Remarks |
| Seamless plot, output |
The Seamless plot feature
of MIKE Flood (using HPQ-maps in MIKE 11) had the following recognized
problems: |
Solved |
MIKE FLOOD 2009 Service Pack 3 - November 2009
Service Packs includes fixes to inconveniences and errors, minor modifications and features to MIKE FLOOD Release 2009.
Service Pack 3 (SP3) for MIKE Flood includes accumulated changes from previous Service Packs as well as the following changes:
| Module/Type | Error/Inconvenience/New feature | Status | Remarks |
| MIKE FLOOD Urban |
Erroneous check for a DMI module removed in Mouse Engine when coupled to MIKE 11 |
Solved | |
| MIKE FLOOD FM |
Illegal storage error occasionally occurred when starting model simulation for specific combination of input file locations. |
Solved | |
| MIKE FLOOD AD |
An error has been found for the AD-coupling of MIKE 21 and MIKE 11 if mutliple AD-compoents were simulated. Concentration values for all components were not correctly transferred between the models causing errors in simulation results. |
Solved | |
| MIKE Flood FM: Link definition using external files | Linking MIKE 11 with MIKE 21 using external files (xyz- and shape-files) was not working properly for the FM-model coupling. | Solved | |
| Lateral linkage elevations |
Elevations of Lateral links have been found
occasionally to be determined incorrectly. The error presents it
self as linkage elevation being too high locally. The error is caused
by an incorrect weighted interpolation routine and hence, at local
chainages, it can be observed that the linkage elevation is too
high due to an incorrect influence of an upstream MIKE 11 cross
section.
So, most typically, such an error could occur in reaches where
distance between cross sections are big and bed slope also significant. |
Solved | This correction can potentially change model simulation results locally as structure elevations locally can be lower than in previous versions. |
MIKE FLOOD 2009 Service Pack 4 - February 2010
Service Packs includes fixes to inconveniences and errors, minor modifications and features to MIKE FLOOD Release 2009.
Service Pack 4 (SP4) for MIKE Flood includes accumulated changes from previous Service Packs as well as the following changes:
| Module/Type | Error/Inconvenience/New feature | Status | Remarks |
| River/Urban Links | MIKE Urban Outlet to MIKE 11 Link; The Water level boundary overwrites the MIKE 11 boundary value, which is not meant to happen. | Solved | |
| River/Urban Links | Occasionally, the boundary definitions was not applied correctly and no water would appear in the model. | Solved | |
| MIKE 11 / MIKE 21 FM lateral links |
An error has been found in the Lateral Links feature of MIKE
FLOOD FM (coupling of MIKE 11 and MIKE 21 FM). The discharge across lateral links was underestimated in cases where the grid spacing in the MIKE 11 portion was less than the segment length of the linkage line. This may occur if the user has chosen a river dx-max resulting in interpolated grid points at run time. |
Solved | Fixed error will in some MIKE Flood FM (River) applications will give significantly different results. A backward compatiliby switch is not available as this is a wrong solution being corrected. |
MIKE FLOOD 2009 Service Pack 5 - June 2010
Service Packs includes fixes to inconveniences and errors, minor modifications and features to MIKE FLOOD Release 2009.

| River/Urban Links | Error message improved when errors in linking river and urban models | Solved | |
| River/Urban coupled model | Simulations with coupled River and Urban models would occasionally hang at the end of simulation. | Solved | |
| FM models | Following a correction released in SP4, a new problem was introduced which caused some MIKE FLOOD FM models to crash during simulation. | Solved |
