Installation^ top
To install MIKE BASIN, please choose 'MIKE BASIN in the 'MIKE BY DHI' dialog that appears when inserting the DHI Software 2009 DVD and then press the 'Install' button.
The setup program automatically installs all necessary MIKE BASIN files and folders on your PC. Additionally, a 'MIKE BASIN' group is created, containing icon for MIKE BASIN, the MIKE BASIN Release Note.
License File and Dongle^ top
To use MIKE BASIN in licensed-mode please follow these steps:
- Make sure that the provided dongle is attached to the computer (parallel or USB port - for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition USB port only)
- The dongle driver is installed automatically during the setup of the program for PCs with Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows 2000. When using Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, the driver for the hardware key must be installed manually. Please follow the installation guideline here.
- The MIKE software license file (DhiLicense.dat) may be retrieved using the Internet. A working Internet connection and a valid e-mail address are required. The license file may be retrieved in two ways:
- During installation of MIKE Software
- After installation of MIKE Software, by launching the License Updater through the start menu
- To retrieve your license file during installation of DHI Software, select “Local” when prompted to select the type of License Management, and then select “Internet” and follow the on-screen instructions
- To update your license file using the License Updater, simply launch “Start->Programs->MIKE BY DHI 2009->License Updater” and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Alternatively, the license file can simply be copied from the supply medium (attachment to e-mail from DHI or CD/DVD/floppy disk) in \Program Files\DHI\2009\License or Program Files (x86)\DHI\2009\License.
Product Invocation^ top
To start MIKE BASIN, go to Start -> Programs -> MIKE BY DHI 2009-> MIKE GIS and select 'MIKE GIS'.
MIKE BASIN cannot be started without a DHI configured Software Key and valid license files for ArcMap and MIKE BASIN. Please contact DHI's Software Support Center.
If the MIKE BASIN toolbars do not appear when starting up MIKE BASIN, the following steps may be taken:
Enabling MIKE BASIN for ArcGIS Extension
The MIKE BASIN extension may need to be enabled as follows:
- Select Tools from ArcMap™ menu bar
- Point to Extensions
- Check 'MIKE BASIN' and from the list of extensions and click Close button.
MIKE BASIN and MIKE BASIN Results toolbars
To turn on visibility of MIKE BASIN toolbars, proceed as follows
- Select View from ArcMap™ menu bar
- Point to Toolbars
- Make sure 'MIKE BASIN' and 'MIKE BASIN Results' have a box checked. If not then check the boxes.

New features^ top
- Decay function has been activated in water quality in reservoirs
- Data type for the output of groundwater and reservoir storage change was corrected
- Recycling of climate timeseries in irrigations is enabled
- “Use minimum release from reservoir” is activated, minimum release is included to satisfy the demand, instead of being top-added to the demand
- Unallocated water has been corrected for non outlet node
- ‘water leaving model area’ has been redefined to be calculated only at the outlet river nodes of the network
- Reset of initial conditions has been corrected when the same time step is run twice from macro/program.
Known Defects & Workarounds^ top
MIKE BASIN 2009 Service Pack 1 - May 2009
No changes have been applied to MIKE BASIN in Service Pack 1 (SP1)
MIKE BASIN 2009 Service Pack 2 - June 2009
| Module/Type | Error/Inconvenience/New feature | Status | Remarks |
| Hydropower nodes | Effective Head calculation was not calculated properly with Time Step Average method. | Fixed | |
| Irrigation nodes |
| Fixed | |
| Reservoir nodes | Multiple remote flow control rules were not allowed to point the same downstream | Improved | |
| Excel Macro simulation | Result timeseries were not registered properly in the database, when simulation is carried out from Excel | Fixed | |
| Simulation Progress bar | Progress bar was not updated during simulation | Fixed |
MIKE BASIN 2009 Service Pack 3 - November 2009
| Module/Type | Error/Inconvenience/New feature | Status | Remarks |
| Setting up the network | The calculation order of nodes in a network with a directional channel revised. | Fixed | |
| Trace river tool | Trace river tool gave error when the map projection and the DEM projection were different | Fixed | |
| Groundwater function | Water balance error when using Groundwater function in water user-node | Fixed | |
| Unit handling | Unit of catchment areas is shown properly in the US unit system. | Fixed | |
| Misc |
| Fixed | |
| ArcGIS version | MIKE BASIN is supported on ArcGIS 9.3 incl. service pack 1 but with SP3 it has also been executed and tested on 9.3.1. Issues found during this have been corrected. | Fixed |
