Installation^ top

To install MIKE 3, please choose 'MIKE 3' in the 'MIKE BY DHI Setup' dialog that appears when inserting the MIKE software 2009 DVD and then press the 'Install' button.

The setup program automatically installs all necessary MIKE 3 files and folders on your PC. Additionally, a 'MIKE Zero' group is created, ccontaining the icon for MIKE Zero and group entries for Documentation, Release Notes and Tools.

License File and Dongle^ top

To use MIKE 3 in licensed-mode please follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that the provided dongle is attached to the computer (parallel or USB port - for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition USB port only)
  2. The dongle driver is installed automatically during the setup of the program
  3. The MIKE software license file (DhiLicense.dat) may be retrieved using the Internet. A working Internet connection and a valid e-mail address are required. The license file may be retrieved in two ways:
  • During installation of MIKE software
  • After installation of the MIKE software, by launching the License Updater through the start menu
  1. To retrieve your license file during installation of the MIKE software, select “Local” when prompted to select the type of License Management, and then select “Internet” and follow the on-screen instructions
  2. To update your license file using the DHI License Updater, simply launch “Start->Programs->MIKE by DHI 2009 ->DHI License Updater” and follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. Alternatively, the license file can simply be copied from the supply medium (attachment to e-mail from DHI or CD/DVD/floppy disk) in  \Program Files\DHI\2009\License or \Program Files (x86)\DHI\2009\License.

Product Invocation^ top

To start MIKE 3, select the 'MIKE Zero' icon under the 'MIKE Zero'  group, or go to
Start -> Programs -> MIKE by DHI 2009 -> MIKE Zero and select 'MIKE Zero'.

Starting MIKE 3 without a DHI configured Software Key and valid license files causes the program to run in Demo mode. If this happens, a message box will inform you during program initialization. Running in Demo mode, MIKE 3 supplies full access to all editors, computational engines and editing facilities. However, restrictions apply to the setups that can actually be executed as a model simulation.

    • New approach for  the entropy fix correction used in the Riemann solver when higher order scheme is used for the space discretization. This correction can have a significant effect on the results - especially for river applications. The previous approach could cause unphysical numerical diffusion. It is possible run the simulation using the previous approach with a special setting in the setup file.
    • Error in calculation of Richards damping
    • Correction of procedure for calculation of the horizontal gradient of the velocity field used for horizontal eddy viscosity. At the bed a full slip approach is used instead of a no slip approach. This correction can have a significant effect on the results - especially for coarse grids and for river applications. It is possible run the simulation using the previous approach with a special setting in the setup file.
    • Error in determination of vertical profile using combined sigma/z-level
    • Error in connection with velocity, flux or discharge boundaries when combined sigma/z-level formulation is used. Small deviation could occur if the simulation were performed on multi-core computers.

    • Error in calculation of settling velocity when more than one class is used
    • Error in calculation of drift profile for 3D simulation
    Fixed
    MIKE 21/3 OS Template
    • Water viscosity was wrongly specified as kinematic viscosity [m^2/s] instead of dynamic viscosity [Pa s]
    • Particle size was defined by 'grain diameter [mm]', but needs to be defined by 'average grain radius [m]'
    • The wax and asphaltene fraction was assumed to have an initial mass of 10kg each. Now the given fractions are used. This may influence the emulsion behaviour.
    Fixed/Modified
    MIKE 21/3 OS
    • An error caused the GUI not to accept some time-varying data items
    • Concentration calculations used fixed water depth instead of current water depth

    • Sources can now be defined in two ways using the new flux interpretation option:
Off: Source defined by individual particle value. I.e. increasing the number of particles will increase the magnitude of the total source
On: Source defined by total source value. I.e. increasing the number of particles will decrease the value for the individual particle
